a review of recent events - a survey (yeah wotever, no pun intended)

After numerous naps and all my daily routine has been turned upside down for the past week, now seems like the oppotune moment for a recess and looking back.

Friday: wake up (set alarm to 6, but i couldn't get vertical even if u give me a million bucks). finally struggled my body and soul to wander out of my bedroom around 7:30 ish, felt aweful. guts all screwed up. went to uni, finally the pressure of 2:00 pm seminar kicked in and got a few hours of solid work done, managed to scramble together 34 slides for powerpoint presentation and at least went through the whole thing 2 times in my head, by the time i felt a bit more confident in my stuff it's already 1:30 pm and i'll have to skip lunch. lugged the laptop to the seminar room, caught luke on the way and he decided to join my seminar. Projector is cool, but there's no blank wall anywhere in that tiny room, so they'll have to make do with a projection onto an area divided by a board in the middle, oh well. presentation went well, still a bit stressed in the talk but thankfully didn't fuck up big time, continued speaking all the way to avoid those temporal brain voids that kills a speech. afterward it's a big load off my chest, ate lunch and sniffed around online for a bit. left office exactly 5:30 and headed for city. met up with koi and her old classmate vivi who's here for a business trip. apparently she is assisting in a lamborghini car launch event. the biggest mistake of the night was the choice of turkish restaurant in southbank over Koh-ya in chinatown. oh the mistake. oh how shit that meal was. my stomach still reeeeks when i thought of that place. apart from the belly dancing, which wasn't that interesting anyway, the whole place is a badly designed bedroom with dirty laundry and SHITTY SHITTY food. firstly they couldn't get us an outside table, then one of the waitress wrongly gave us a glass of GOD KNOW WOT soda water that is pale white in colour and the taste, oh the waste how will i ever forgot... is worse than any words i have that can describe aweful. it's worse than cough medicine with piss. anyway, gave that back, and waiting for the main meal. chicken soup arrived, with a huge overdoze of salt, and a dirty layer of maybe goat cheese floating on top. dip turkish bread in that and you get a weird taste of middle east. but that wasn't even close to the highlight of shittyness. then comes a pizza-shaped dish that we later identify as beef something something (turkish name of coz), the presence of beef is a myth that we later guessed that are those black stuff on top of the pizza thing and red radish chilly thing. totally no beef taste notwithstanding, it's basically just pizza based. the worse dish then came along with "salad" and "rice" with 3 sticks of exactly 4 prawn on each. if the chicken soup is overdozed in salt, this prawn thing is totally void of any form of spice, salt, pepper or suger. plain grilled bbq prawn will taste greater than this stuff. and the rice, ohhh the rice. how could anyone ever cook rice to the shape and texture like that is beyond my wildest comprehension. each rice blob is huge, almost 3 times the size of normal cooked rice, and taste like plastic mixed with panadol. such ill-treatment of rice is almost an grand insult on us rice-loving chinese men and women. didn't even eat 1/3 of it. hungry, angry and disillunsioned, we are offered with a final blow with a bill of 60 dollars. 60 AUD DOLLARS OF MY HARD EARNED MONEY FOR THIS SHIT?!!! on credit, thanx.

Saturday: Julia's wedding, BIIIG EVENT, considering the fact that i designed the invitation. awfully hot, no aircon in the car,, must dress formal.. obviously these elements don't mix well. by the time i arrive at church i'm soaked in my own sweat. poured some Cool Water over my neck to help alleviate a bit of the consequence, walked in, eyes searching helplessly and rapidly for any familiar face while everybody in the church stare down at me with the same intensity as if i'm the bride. embarrased, i quickly found refuge with the old bank folks and squeezed in their bench. we must've break the world record of the number fit on a standard church bench, with 8 of us sharing that unfortunate bench. lucky my ass is small. The reverand dude (steve, Julia's dad's uncle") is obviously a very good reverand and public speaker. this is exemplified through the fact that he talked for 1.5 hours non-stop on God's blessing on each of us, especially Julia and Paul and how God view domestic happiness while verybody's head is like a lemon on a juicer, spilling sweats and steaming smokes in this hot day. Finally before any old lady is ready to pass out, he finished the speech and everybody applauded. the exchange of vows and rings was rather quick but quick moving, a moment to be remembered and cherished i think. for once i'm truly happy for Julia and all sorts of happy things fill my brain. the flower girls and boys are quite amusing, dressed in little fairy wings and all that. afterwards we are invited to take part in a group picture and individual pictures with the groom and bride. didn't get to talk with Julia 'coz she's too busy handling all her relatives in brisbane. she has a huge (and i mean huge) family here, quite successful one too. everybody gave them warm wishes and hugs. We are later treated with cakes biscuits and juice. on the way back i gave a lift to jacky and his wife, who's a lecturer at QUT. 20 weeks into her second pregnancy she looks fantastic, but jacky is still recovering from his horrific traffic accident last week that wiped off his Camry as total loss. apparently some drunk islanders run a red light and slammed right into the middle of the right hand side. he escaped unharmed but totally shocked. i reckon he wouldn't dare to drive again for 3 months minimum. got home, soaked again in sweat, but coulnd't care much anyway. finally had a motivation to watch a bit of movies after 2 months, so watched Initial D eps 19 and 20. the series and finally caught on with the manga and s2000 and R34 GTR finally appeared. it ends where Rx-7 raced with GTR to the top and will continue for their downhill battle. i thought GTR was too heavy for nimble mountain pass races such as this, but the whole series is based on impossible races anyway. come 6:30 and headed for landmark for the wedding's reception dinner. Julia was still dressed in their white wedding gown, i think she likes it quite a bit simply for the fact that she's slim enough to fit in it. the dinner is a 12 course affair with delicacies encompassing prawn balls, shark fins and crabs. the plates are contained in what must be silver containers. From experience this signifies a higher standard dinner that ranks just below gold containers, however Lisa discovered that some silver spoons still have stuff sticks on them... need some more polishing i guess. Paul's mum gave a speech first. Everybody in the table agreed that she was quite an articulated woman, the speech was very warm, comprehensive and full of curtesy. Paul's dad's english speak didn't impress much. Julia's dad gave a pretty good speech, gave credit to Paul for being a good son in law. couldn't remember much of best man's speech, his brother said something about the remote control in the house? lol later on after a few rounds of beers and wine people started to loosen up a bit, Julia's twin brother andrew is leading the game of "blind match" that want julia to touch people's ass blind folded to identify paul. however the touching part is later toned down to shoulder area. by this time it's already 10:30 and i had to rush to mt cootha. unfortunately it's cloudy last night so apart from some really bright stars, only occassional areas of stars were visible. but we did succesfully managed to captured 2 seperate comets gliding through the evening sky. one of the telescope up there was somehow operatable without coins, so we scoped away and had a good hard look on brissy.

Sunday: wake up for the run to airport. the road was unclogged so it's a smooth run. had some rather expensive cappucino in airport lounge and headed back to catch some sleep. watched an so so film to kill time for the afternoon. the film was "into the blue sea" or sth. plot was mediocre, rather typical "lost treasure and the human struggle" sort of theme. the main girl actress is rather artificial in my opinion. i am, however, envious of their under water ability and enjoyment.

so here goes my weekend. tired physically and exhausted mentally, i now plan to sleep.
