Christmas with muggles

Ahh yes, Christmas is upon us again. the shopping bonanza and gift heaven of the year where innocent boys and girls go off to stack up thousands of dollars knowingly on their VISA cards. Walking through Garden City today, the center is filled with cheery gift shoppers with trolleys and trolleys of stuff. admittedly, the whole christmas atmosphere is one of peace and soothing, perfect catalyst for a shopping spree. what will yo do if you are happy, surrounded by shops and happy Christmas music, and have some gift to give on the agenda? you shop till you drop, of course. And each year after Christmas the new statistics of how deep in shit we collectively are will be revealed on national tv and radio, and everyone from those nun-like consumer finance organisations will then come out and warn everybody how not to be burnt by credit card bills. Where are they before we spend the money? this year it's already forecasted that aussies dumbasses will dig a whole of 20 billion and jump right in from now until january 2006, equivalent to 1000+ dollars PER HEAD. I can imagine the look on the VISA card paper-pusher's face when he/she saw my credit card bill of negative 400 dollars. who is this guy?! lol.

maybe we shouldn't be so critical about their spending habit after all. who's to judge what is right and wrong? a clean bill of credit history means exact what? now somebody mentioned the strange phenomenon of chinese vs westerners in spending habit. We as chinese, spends tens of thousands more on a house in a heartbeat, while what you call true aussies spend ten dollars in a heartbeat. while this prejudice is certain ill-conceived, it demonstrated a total mentality divide. you often witness the strange yet understandable situation where a loaded taiwanese lady (i'll ignore usual adjective like cheap, annoying, pretentious here) haggling over 10 cents worth of vegies while they drive off in a metallic painted (that's 500 dollar extra mind you) Mercedes into their 3/4 million mansion. chinese are cheap, denying is futile.
