Easter 2012
Discipline: it's the keyword.
After 4 days of mostly lounge around the couch and sleep in
and youtubing and books, it's probably fitting to restock. I had the urge to
write in the shower urgently but by now dissipated a wee bit. Probably my
allergy again.
I've also failed to do any real and meaningful work I was
scheduled myself to do, ie, finish the tax, trading, sharepoint. Sigh. Hence
the title of this blog is discipline.
The litigators by Grisham
It's been a while since I finished a book, well that's not
true, I've actually finished the Chinese bond trader book pretty quickly. The
Grisham book the litigators though, took a bit persistence to finally complete.
Have to say the end bit was quite a bit more exciting and therefore so much
less dreary to power through than the depressing the average middle bit. It's
probably in the middle bit trying to build up to the finale but the plots are
wee bit obvious. I mean the middle bit also revealed a few I would consider as
gapping holes of the plot in real world. The good fortune of David in finding
that scary teeth company is rather easy to my untrained eyes. very fascinating
to know again how young associates labour though in the big firms. Although the
legal profession in the states seems quite bipolar in that there isn't a comfortable
middle class lifestyle for lawyers. Lol. Anyhow, legal professionals are
probably a necessary evil. Also made me never want to deal with them ever.
Which could be a positive subconscious suggestion. Oh the other gaping hole is
how the plot funneled uneasily to make David taking the lead litigator role
towards the end after in close sequence both oscar and Wally suddenly succumb
to their nerves and fell off the map. Oscar I would think is tougher than this.
And David would help some Burmese illegal immigrants through months of
prosecution and personally care for them? Hard to find ppl like this now I tell
ya! Especially in legal profession. But then lawyers still do pro bono work...
Dunno, just felt its a bit improbable. Also that the illegal aliens would be
ballsy enough to sue. Oh the final one: toy company passing of info to destroy
their competitors? Could happen I guess. But let's now pick bones here. The
book's got a great start and strong finish, middle bit took me a while to churn
through but it was worth it I reckon in the end.
Bill bailey and Ross noble and j Edgar
The other significant achievement is the amount of video I
watched. J edgar is the first bluray file I played through laptop on tv. The
picture isn't quite as sharp as I hoped but it could be down to the age of my
tv. Dicaprio has a knack for portraying great men of last century. So intense
is his focus and stare I almost believed. But the the gay scene put me off a
wee bit you know. Fascinating to think what would be in his personal file. What
juicy personal dirt he amassed over such long and dark tenure. Alien secret?
Probably not. The usual sexual deviant shit I bet. Which isn't that dazzling in
the post lewinsky and post John major era. A man, a compulsive one at that,
with a singular and unyielding focus on overpowering domestic gangs and foreign
threat, is very harrowing.
New and old comedians discovered this Easter:
Bill bailey, Ross noble, josh Lawson, shaun mccallef,
hamish Blake.
Ross noble is especially interesting. His random style is
quite unique.
