Moviejournal: Luca, Seaspiracy

so two movies about the seas but vastly different.

It's refreshing to hear about different perspectives and narratives fed by the mainstream these days. I mean the largest conspiracy is probably peddled by the mainstream media these days, Trump is probably right in a sense, not that i agree totally with that guy. so the main theme of Seaspiracy is the tale of global fishing industry evil-doings, to sum up succinctly. Fish nets became by far the largest source of killing for marine life as they lethally tangle in them. by-catch are literally deadtraps for dolphins, and trawlers globally pay no regards to the marine seabed vegetations that sustain life under the surface.

the whole film is pretty filled up with punches enough to arouse a deep and pungunt sense of disgust and distaste for anything marine-sustaining in appearance. even the seemingly harmless salmon farming up the idyllic coast of Ireland were actually not so natural in the end. even more off-putting are the fact that farmed salmon are grey and they just colour them orange, like Trump's skin.

the solution provided by the film is just singular in its intent: eat less fish. no other alternatives as proven by this very persuasive film would save the marine world from tipping into oblivion, thereby wrecking havoc on the whole climate irreversibly and killing all of us.

However the questions, like the social dilemma before it, posed on the viewing mass is whether a subscription only service like this and the impact and discussion that can be generated. Fish as a food category is now highly regarded thanks to the Japanese sushi snooties and general marketing push over the last half century, and it's pretty hard to knock fish off the pedestal they are on as a food group unless something drastic happens to the world's taste. It's not like sugar where detriments are clearly and scientifically available and visible. Fishing industry can throw money and hide it from view.
