MVC day 1

First day of mvc and fucking gastro

I really didn't enjoy the first day of the vs2010 training on several levels. Firstly, the subject matter's usefulness is debateable. It appears that the big rationale for MVC is TDD. I hate TDD with all my guts and intestines. It really boils down for me to how often I do enterprise level dev. Honestly in the last 3 years? Zilch. I've always been in the niche small audience non scalable environment and that's not gonna change until I move elsewhere. The sheer lack of server controls is daunting even Steve the nerd himself admits would defeats the best intentioned and initiated developers. The benefit is non existent while overheads are huge. And in a sharepoint environment, is there scope to do MVC anyway? A wp that leverages this? List as model ? And custom code as controller? It just doesn't fit. There is I'm sure a very well defined market for MVC, probably a SAAS shop would put in the effort to deliver web services using this model, and elaborate sites such as eCommerce. I've never written one working unit test in my entire adult life and I wish to keep it that way

Other tidbits:

MFC: monster of a thing for windows API programming. Replaced by vastly superior asp.net

Linq: linq to entity framework is ADO team goodness. Speed always improving and no more need to write straight SQL code. Use lambda notations for functions.

WPF seems dying too: xaml is a bitch to write and developers stick with forms...

JavaScript is ugly because its not compiled. Can be quite dangerous.

Moviejournal: skyfall, whatever works, back to 1942

skyfall

somber film. depicting bond as almost die-hard van-dam level of muscle man/bullet tackling hit man. songs are beautiful though. nothing much to say about the current bond film really. somehow i want to say i prefer sean connery, but do i really? visual effects seem to trump acting in this genre anyway.

whatever works

i think i'm falling in love with woody allen film again. like in the house of lies, it's a break of the 4th wall creation. love it very much.

back to 1942
