Moviejournal: Planes and Turbo

As an avid animation fan i was looking forward to planes and turbo. but both turned out to be a bit of fizz and no substance and depth. In comparison i would almost say turbo has a bit of zing in it compare to the plain and tasteless Planes.. that's a tongue twister..

planes is like a mini brother short film of the excellent Cars, but sourly lacks in depth and plot twists and fanfare. The flying jargons are appreciated, but that alone can't lift this film to the normal pixar standards. i'm not sure what disney has tampered with in the pixar machine, but whatever they did it's not welcomed i reckon.

Turbo is a nice entertaining film but if you've seen the trailor u've seen the best bits. i think that alone is damning issue for any film if all you need to see is the trailer...

Moviejournal: JOBS

i make no concealment that jobs was a hero of mine for several reasons. a true visionary and practitioner of avant garde technical innovation, a great entertaining presenter that truly captures audience attention and imagination, and an elegant human being that set apart art and hedonism. One of the great loss of our times, ladies and gentlemen. Who knows what else he could be capable of given another 10 years. he might run out of grunt and hit a proverbial brick wall when another larger than life tsunami hits that overwhelms the consumer/tehnical nature of his company, but it makes fascination thinking. a guy that puts the greatest detail and passion on the few real love of his life is highly commendable, and is rare.

the film is a true adaption of the book and bits of jobs life that is known to public. kutcher portrays this intense and highly intelligent character with his unique youthful enthusiasm that transcends time. the period of pixar and NeXT was brushed over and enough screen time and energy was exerted on the trials and tribulations between Jobs and his ever so alienating board until he has enough power to abolish the board upon his triumphant return. a great film for the only 4 moviegoers in the theatre.

Moviejournal: Red & Red 2

RED actually stands for the cutely acronym of retired: extremely dangerous. It does incite a certain nostalgia about the cold war years and the vast south america black ops days in the american history book. professional review has been damning of this film series yet my impression is the exact opposite. Red 2 is a vastly entertaining film for me as it combines my favourite element of a female comedian (in this case a very loveable Louise Parker) and some wildly hilarious action scenes. Not exactly james bond slick but it's good for a casual popcorn movie. to me violence diluted with humour is the best cocktail of them all.
