the honest consciousness stream style of woody allen are always refreshing and unique. with such a promising and stellar cast of winslet/timberlake, one can't help but wonder how much better it could be, however i'm the first to admit i don't fully appreciate woody's artistic direction yet in this one. it tells an searing and insightful story into the intricacies of post war life in the fast lane, winslet kicks this movie along with her superb interpretation of this closet actress that never content with her marriage and loops between being rescued and stepping out for fun-seeking. without winslet this would probably be a super flat and tacky life in the dull 50's.
