The joyous foray into Tesla, the pitfalls of short videos

 hello avid followers of this riveting blog, all 0 of you. Long time.

it's only fittings that we begin by exploring the hands on experienced infused review of the pros and cons of tesla's peasant class vehicle, the 2022 shanghai made rwd standard range model Y that I gleefully been driving for the past 2 months.

Pros

The software isn't as crapware as the angry internet mob described. So far there wasn't one time that I was forced to restart the onboard OS when driving, there was only 1 times something was off and I rebooted in the safety of my driveway. Speakers are definitely a step up from my X3 as well, spotify sounds crisp and full bodied in the car. 

Acceleration is brisk when properly prodded with a heavy right foot, and the pitched whining from the rear axel motor adds a tad of exotic excitement to the otherwise rather eventless yet forceful acceleration. However it also would quickly become a game to see how frugal you can be with the electricity mileage, especially that the onboard graphics shows almost second by second reading of the electric juice efficiency, I almost felt guilty when the mileage graph shot up. 

While there is no 360 view camera, the rear view camera and lines are quite adequate for reversing. Blind spot camera and sentry mode recordings are also nice touches and mostly mitigated the need for additional recorders. 

Not having to service the engine and having fewer moving parts to service is definitely a plus. I guess electric motor requires 0 service ever. It's just air filters, tyres, brake fluids. Braking is largely a result of regen braking instead of metal friction except in the most urgent scenarios when a sudden stop is called for. It is nice knowing i'm not using the brakes and there's no expensive brake system replacement after few years.

How can I not mention the absolute deciding factor that it is so cheap? for 70k AUD it is an absolute bargain. the SUV you can buy for 70K? not even an x1 these day. Apparently X1 starts at closer to 80k now. What a rip off in comparison. 

Cons

Not having to fill up expensive petrol or diesel is certainly a given, however given its range of 430km and the recommendation to fill up even if you used 20%, that translates to charge every other day. Given that I need to take the charger out from the front and connect up every time, it's a slight inconvenience however you can also stretch to 3-4 days and recharge overnight if I want to, so it's entirely self inflicted at the moment. 

Steering wheel, though, is so wooden and rubbery it's not funny. I miss the bmw steering wheels full stop. If that's intentional I'm not sure it's a good direction for steering feedback to go, I for one will miss the fluidity and smoothness. The steering wheel and the stalks definitely aren't female friendly and requires a bit of a brute to operate.

The lack of a HUD or center display may or may not be a key issue in the long term, but to me it feels like a decidedly omission. Whilst my previous bottom spec Bmw x3 is also missing an HUD, the omission felt more hurtful when the only speedo reading in on a screen off center and require a distant glance.

seems reading is much more suited to our brain than the pesky short videos, noting that short videos having its merits by disseminating info quickly, (albeit in a blast fashion so how much user remembers and go back to it is questionable)
