Second Life Moviejournal: Apocalytpto

This SL thing sounds more promising as time goes. some chinese woman has become a millionnair selling real estate and providing home/land packages effectively on second life. the term "real estates" should really become "virtual estate" since the unreal nature of land in second life. the real amazing thing is the building and creating part though. the possibilities are indeed endless, apart from the fact that basic human needs are nonexistent, including food, shelter and medical care. effectively it is a small world that is mimicking the real one. i've been reading about some promising prospects of what this means for future internet and some sounds really enticing. you can try out real clothes on a exact copy of youself in avatar forms, for example, after walking into a virtual shop by clicking on the retailer the website. Universities and distant learnings suddenly become not so distant. there's several things i can think of that could be good in the future:

* investment banks and stock exchanges

as economy evolves, people are going to look for better and efficient ways to invest their linden dollars. how about a stock exchange for business to do IPO? problem is that this will more likely require a critical mass to sustain.

* online training centers

learning is a timeless practice and everybody needs it. build up from small and start from a technical training center that teaches basic scripting and building classes, moving on to trading and investment classes, eventually a certified university complete with degrees and certificates. home works can be marked electronically and by paid tutors, labs are visual and multimedia. how good is this. problem is this will probably need some old brick and mortor credibility to survive. e.g. VMIT - virtual MIT (vomit???) :P

clothing and apparells are already everywhere in second life. so is animations and else. game development could be an interesting area, a lot of mini sub games that attracts advertisers and pay per plays. as broadband proliferates and computer equipments gets better and cheaper, there will surely be a market for these things.

to be continued
